Supplier cost documents, a calculator and material samples, illustrating cost reduction

RFI template

A request for information that helps you learn the market and build a shortlist before you tender.

A request for information (RFI) asks suppliers to describe who they are, what they do and how they would approach your need. It does not ask for a binding price. Use it when you are unsure which suppliers exist, what solutions are available or how to write a specification.

This RFI template keeps questions short and comparable, so suppliers can respond quickly and you can see who is worth inviting to a full RFP or RFQ. It also helps you test your requirements before you commit to them.

Free to download. Available as Word and PDF.

Frequently asked questions
